CM सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू का बड़ा ऐलान, 4 जगहों पर शुरू होंगी हेलीपोर्ट सेवाएं, किसे मिलेगा फायदा?

हिमाचल प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने राज्य में हेली सेवाओं से जुड़ा बड़ा ऐलान किया है। सीएम ने बुधवार को ऐलान करते हुए बताया कि चम्बा, पालमपुर, रक्कड़ (कांगड़ा) और रिकांगपिओ हेलीपोर्ट के लिए किफायती हवाई किराए पर हेलीकॉप्टर सेवाएं जल्द ही शुरू होने वाली हैं। सीएम सुक्खू ने कहा कि यह हेलीपोर्ट उड़ान योजना के तहत चिह्नित किए गए हैं। इस दौरान सीएम ने बताया कि यहां के लिए उड़ानें शुरू होने से दूरदराज और दुर्गम क्षेत्रों के लोगों के लिए हवाई यात्रा सुलभ हो जाएगी और इससे इन क्षेत्रों में पर्यटन को भी बढ़ावा मिलेगा।

मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि ये नई हेलीकाप्टर सेवाएं पर्यटन और स्थानीय आबादी दोनों के लिए वरदान साबित होंगी। उन्होंने कहा कि हिमाचल को पर्यटन राज्य के रूप में विकसित करना सरकार की प्राथमिकता है। इससे स्थानीय युवाओं को रोजगार और स्वरोजगार के अवसर भी उपलब्ध हो सकेंगे। मुख्यमंत्री के अनुसार, सरकार प्रदेश में पर्यटन बुनियादी ढांचे को सुदृढ़ करने, पर्यटकों की संख्या बढ़ाने और हवाई सम्पर्क में और सुधार के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। इस लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए जिला मुख्यालयों पर हेलीपोर्ट स्थापित करने की योजना है। उन्होंने कहा कि कांगड़ा हवाई अड्डे का वस्तिार भी प्रगति पर है।

सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने यह भी कहा कि राज्य सरकार के अथक प्रयासों से हवाई सम्पर्क सेवाओं का निरंतर विस्तार हो रहा है। हाल ही में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा अमृतसर से कुल्लू के भुंतर तक हवाई उड़ानें शुरू की जा चुकी हैं। ये राज्य में पर्यटकों की आमद में बढ़ोतरी में मददगार साबित होगा क्योंकि अमृतसर हवाई अड्डा कई घरेलू और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गंतव्यों को जोड़ने वाला एक प्रमुख केंद्र है। इस बारे में जानकारी देते हुए सीएम सुक्खू ने यह भी बताया कि राज्य के युवाओं को इससे रोजगार मिलेगा। इसके साथ ही राज्य में टूरिज्म के भी बढ़ने की संभावना है। पर्यटकों की संख्या बढ़ने के साथ ही राज्य के राजस्व में भी बढ़ोत्तरी होगी। 

Mock drill in 7 quake-prone districts

A mega mock drill to meet any eventuality in the wake of calamity like earthquake and raise the level of preparedness was held simultaneously in the headquarters of seven districts today.
The mega exercise was conducted in Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kangra falling in seismic zones IV and V to find out strength and gaps in preparedness and mitigation.
The State Disaster Management Authority, the Army, ITBP, NDRF, SSB, Police, Civil Defence, Home Guards, Fire Brigade, Deputy Commissioners, Red Cross and line departments, including Revenue, Irrigation and Public Health, Education, Irrigation and PWD, state power board and BSNL, participated in the mock drill.
Briefing media-persons about the mock drill, Chief Secretary VC Pharka said the basic objective of the exercise was to gauge the level of preparedness in the wake of earthquake of 8 degree magnitude.
The exercise was held with six vulnerable spots in each district headquarters and different types of situations were created to test the disaster management preparedness.
Additional Chief Secretary and head of the disaster management Tarun Sridhar said the mock drill was organised as the major area of the state was in the seismic zone and 25 per cent area fell under seismic zone V.
Some gaps in communication came to light and the efforts would be made to remove these after proper assessment and the Army had suggested strengthening of trauma centre and mortuary, first-aid training and wireless network at the ground level.
The Army also pointed out that there were gaps in coordination at grassroot level which needed to be bridged. Sridhar said the relief and rescue operations were conducted presuming 582 casualties and 1,731 injuries.
In Shimla, mock drill was conducted at six places as per the international parameters of disaster management through multi-agency coordination.

Casualties to be in lakhs: IIT

As per a survey conducted by IIT Roorkie, about 1.8 lakh people will die and 14.5 lakh be injured if an earthquake of 8 degree magnitude rocked the state. An earthquake of 8 degree which rocked Kangra in 1905 had claimed 20,000 lives in spite of the fact that the population was very less at that time. Geologists have observed that such calamities normally occur after about 100 years.

Government to make efforts to get patent right for Chamba Chappal

While speaking on the closing ceremony of the International Minjar Fair sports prize distribution function at historic Chamba Chougan today, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that the government would make earnest efforts  to ‘Patent’ the Chamba Chappal so as to avoid its duplicity in the market. This would also economically benefit those involved in the profession and who had kept alive the very existence of the craft of Chamba Chappal. Besides, the Chamba Rumal, which has made its international presence felt would also be promoted.
The Chief Minister also stressed upon preservation of traditional culture and customs. He said that Minjar festival has its own historical significance and similar were the other fairs and festivals of the State.  We as Himachali's, should be proud of our culture, customs and traditions, he said adding that only those civilizations survive which respect, follow and preserve their traditions besides believing in and having faith in our deities.
Being modern in true sense was to develop oneself individually sticking along with our culture and customs. He said that we should celebrate all our fairs and festivals, may be at State, district or at subdivision level, with zeal and fervour.
As Chamba has a rich cultural legacy, the government would honour the weavers and craftsmen of Chamba or those who have preserved and carried along the age-old rich art and craft of Chamba, in a State level function at Shimla in near future.
Speaking on the bus stand issue, he said that Bus stand along with the workshop would be completed within the next two months near Chamba old Prisons and issued directions to complete the work within stipulated time.
He said that a cement factory was being set up in Chamba for quite some time and the work was still in limbo.  The company working on it earlier failed to accomplish the job and was blacklisted and now tenders were being floated again so that the work on cement plant can be started at the earliest.
The Chief Minister said that Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College would soon be opened in Chamba and similarly the Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Medical College which was coming up at Sirmaur and another at Hamirpur.

The Chief Minister said that enough educational institutions had been opened in the state and now the schools would be opened as per dire need felt, if  any, in mostly far flung and remote areas of the State. Today there were around 115 colleges in the State, mostly in rural areas which had benefited girl child the most.
He said that he had always been against the grading system in schools and had taken up the matter with Union Government for changing the same and instead to be replaced by examination system. This will help analysing the performance of the students as well and help them in this competitive world. Apart from this the teachers also had to ensure that they work committedly. He said that anyone can send a letter to him on his address if they have any complaints against teachers who were not serious in their profession, adding that their name would be kept anonymous.
The State Government has launched a massive LED promotion scheme in the State, under which LED bulbs are being made available to the domestic consumers, at less than half the market price, he said. We were also working to provide three phase electric lines in all villages to solve the low voltage problem if necessary in few hamlets, he said.
He also distributed prizes to the winners of various sports competitions held during the week long fair.
The Chief Minister inaugurated Kalyan Bhawan at Karian constructed with an outlay of Rs. 1.04 crore. He also laid foundation stone of 33 KV sub station at Lahal to cost Rs. 234 crore and laid foundation stone of second Model College under RUSA to come up at Lylh in Bharmaur assembly segment to cost Rs. 15 crore and first being Sarahan in Sirmaur. It will have all facilities like hostel etc. He also laid foundation stone of commercial complex under Special Area Development Authority (SADA) at Patti in Bharmaur.

Chief Minister dedicates HRTC sub depot at Killar

The much awaited demand of the people of Pangi Valley of Chamba district for HRTC Sub-depot was finally fulfilled today as Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh dedicated the same to the people besides performing the foundation Stone laying ceremony of Rs 5.30 crore new Bus Stand at Killar. He also flagged off Bus service from Killar to Sural Bhatori. He directed the PWD authorities to complete the construction work of new bus stand within the stipulated time period. The new Bus stand will have the facility of waiting lounge, Canteen, Police assistance room, Cloak room, crew rest room and a separate waiting room for ladies.

 Later, while addressing a massive gathering at Kala Kendra, Killar, Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the Government would ensure filling up of vacant posts of Doctors in the valley. The government will ensure that the doctors and specialists complete their full term in such areas, he added. He said that the government would start science classes in various senior secondary schools as per the norms taking into consideration the strength of the students.

 In order to strengthen the health infrastructure in the State, the Government was setting up three medical colleges in Hamirpur, Nahan and Chamba districts for which a provision of Rs. 189 crore each had been made. Besides, an AIIMS like institution was coming up in Bilaspur, which would provide quality health services to the people, he added.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that all the left-out villages in Pangi valley would be connected by roads. He assured to provide the requisite heavy machinery to the PWD department to accelerate the pace of road work in the Valley. He said that two hydel projects Larsen and Toubro (L&T) of 266 MW and 449 MW of TATA company were being commissioned in the valley where employment should be ensured to the local people, he added. “I will see that the youth of the area were given employment in these projects as per the norms of providing 70 percent employment quota to the youth of the State”, said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister said that he had traversed almost every part of the area on foot when the valley was submerged in deep snow. “ I have myself seen that the people of the Valley  had to face many hardships and the area was inaccessible by roads”, he said adding that after the creation of office of Resident Commissioner during the Congress regime way back, the area slowly started treading on the path of development. He said  that  there were more than 66 Primary school in the valley today besides over half a dozen high and Senior Secondary Schools.

The Chief Minister said that government was endeavoured to connect every area of the State with road facility. He added that  there were just around 300 kilometers of roads in the State during its formation and today the road length in the State was more than 35000 kilometers.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the government was committed to provide subsidised ration to the people. As the rates of the pulses have increased manifold, yet the government, by bearing the losses therein, will provide subsidised ration to the people, he added.

The Chief Minister released the first issue of quarterly magazine   ‘Sewa Surlehri, Ek Kadam Ghati Ki Aur’ on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that the adequate finances would be provided for maintenance of Kala Kendra Ground. He announced a sum of Rs  15000 for the school children for presenting cultural programme.

Forest Minister, Shri Thakur Singh Bharmouri, welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries to his assembly segment. He said that it was the Congress Party, under the leadership of Shri Virbhadra Singh, which gave due importance for the development of tribal areas of the State. He said that numerous educational and Health institutions have been opened in Pangi valley. He said that there was a great demand of tunnel below Chehni Pass which was cleared in the recently held cabinet. He asked for reconsidering the Detailed Project Report and adding that the DPR needs to prepared from near Mindhal Mata Temple in the Valley to near Devikothi on the other side of the Pass towards Tissa.

He said that the Saach Pass (14050 ft) could not be opened for Vehicular traffic due to the very reason, which was hampering the movement of men and machinery to and fro Saach Pass connecting the valley with district headquarters. He urged the Chief Minister to give necessary directions for providing modern equipments and machinery for snow clearance and removing the blockades due to glaciers in the valley.

State Youth Congress President, Shri Vikramaditya Singh said the Land Acquisition Bill, which was earlier brought out by the UPA, was presented in completely amended form by the BJP Government at the Centre to benefit few industrialists and big houses. He said that the Congress would certainly keep opposing the same in the better interest of the farmers of the Country. The Government has decided to open Skill Development Corporation so as to create opportunities of employment to the youth of the State, added Shri Vikramaditya.


He said that that the State government was according priority  to provide all basic facilities to the people of the tribal areas and was committed to expand educational institutions in far-flung and tribal areas.

Resident Commissioner Pangi, Shri Inder Bhardwaj, presented a cheque of Rs 2,52 lakh  to the Chief Minister towards CM Relief Fund on behalf of all the   Government employees serving at Pangi.

Earlier, Member Tribal Advisory Committee, Shri Ramcharan Rana and President Block Congress Committee, Shri Devendar Shyam also spoke on the occasion and tabled their demands, the main being status of sub-Tehsil for Pangi and the tunnel below Chehni Pass to connect the tribal belt of Pangi with District Headquarters, Chamba. They also demanded up-gradation of various schools including filling up the vacant posts in various departments.

One crore sanctioned for ITI at Bharmour: G.S Bali

Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Shri G.S Bali, who is on two days visit to Chamba district, today said at Bharmour that Rs. one crore have been sanctioned for ITI building at Bharmour. He also announced modernization of Bharmour bus stand on the priority basis on the occasion.

Shri Bali said that appropriate steps would be taken up for establishing petrol pump at Kilar. He said that state government was giving special attention for uniform and speedy development of the tribal and hard areas of the State for which there was no paucity of funds.

The Minister also inspected the technical institutions, transport office and fair price shops and directed the authorities to ensure better facilities to the people. He also inspected the roads of the Bharmour area and directed to remove the black spots.

C.M. directs officers to take issues of public representatives on priority

Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh has directed the Administrative Secretaries and Heads of Departments to address the different issues taken up by the public representatives besides considering their valuable suggestions on priority . He said that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of various projects should be completed in time bound manner and strict action would be taken against erring officers.

Chief Minister was addressing the meetings of MLAs of Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu districts to fix the priorities of Annual Plan for 2014-15 here today. He said that the matter of outsourcing the work of preparing DPRs should be decided well in time and forest clearances cases should be taken on priority adding that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.

Chief Minister said that providing best road facilities to the people of the State was top priority and directed the PWD authorities for regular maintenance of the roads so that commuters do not face any inconvenience. He said that Damtal-Kandrauri-Indora road would be repaired and maintained keeping in view heavy vehicular traffic in the area. He said that local MLAs should be consulted before constructing and planning of roads in their areas so that the demands of the people could be considered on priority basis. He said that ample employment opportunities should be given to local people in the area where the industries were being set up.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that State Government was ensuring speedy and balanced development of all areas of the State without any political considerations however priority being given to remote and far-flung areas.. He said that roads, irrigation and drinking water were the main focus of the MLAs priorities and concerned departments should work expeditiously on the priority schemes. He said that in order to provide efficient and transparent services, Rangers, Deputy Rangers and Forest Guards in Forest Department and Constable in Police Department should not be deployed in their home beats. He said that the State Government was committed to provide fair, transparent and responsive administration to the people of the State by adopting zero tolerance towards corruption. He said that the State Government had performed well during last one year tenure and the State had been adjudged as the Best State in investment and health sectors in the category of big States in the State of States Conclave-2013.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that monkey menace has become a serious problem in the State and has to be tackled with multi-pronged strategy on priority. He said that their natural habitat must be maintained and fruit species should be planted in forests so that monkeys may get sufficient in their natural environ. He said that efforts should be made to maintain natural flora and fauna in natural habitat. He stressed for better coordination among various departments so that people could get facilities at the earliest. He said that interstate matters pertaining to roads, demarcation of boundaries, water disputes etc. must be solved on priority to save people from undue harassment. He directed the officers to hold talks with their counterparts of other states and GoI so that disputes may be settled amicably. He said that sufficient posts of Surveyors in PWD and I&PH Department would be filled and their present strength would be rationalized. It will help in timely preparation of Detailed Project Reports.

Chief Minister said that 100-bedded hospital would be opened in Jaisinghpur assembly constituency at Jaisinghpur . He said that a Government Degree College would be opened at Khundiyan in Jwalamukhi assembly constituency. He directed the officers to prepare a project for checking the problem of soil erosion near Shiv Temple Baijnath in district Kangra.

District Kangra: Shri Ajay Mahajan, MLA from Nurpur requested for proper maintenance of Bachat Bhawan and sufficient funds for it at Nurpur besides providing blood bank facility and trauma centre in his area. He requested that adequate staff should be deployed in Finna Singh Irrigation Scheme and providing sufficient funds for restoration of historic temples. He also urged for funds for Nurpur Sewerage Scheme.

Shri Manohar Dhiman, MLA, Indora requested to include four panchayats of his constituency in Shahnahar irrigation scheme and demarcation of the land at boundary of Himachal and Punjab States. He urged for proper maintenance of various roads and construction of bridges in his assembly segment and giving employment opportunities to the local people in the industries being set up in the area.

Shri Bikram Singh, MLA, Jaswan-Pragpur requested to sort out the problem of shortage of water pipes in the Irrigation and Public Health Department and Lift Irrigation Schemes in his area should be made functional. He urged that area adjoining to the Maharana Partap Sagar Dam should be developed for promoting tourism activities in the area.

Shri Maheshwar Singh, MLA, Kullu requested for solving the voltage problem and opening a new PWD Division in the area. He urged that single tenders should be accepted under PMGSY for accelerating the pace of development and to avoid un-necessary delays in the execution of projects. He also requested for simplifying the procedure for providing gun licenses to the people who were living in the adjoining areas of forest sanctuaries.

He said that these officials should be again sent to their respective places and new postings should be made at Nither. He said that DSP Ani, SHO Nirmand and Bro Police Post vehicles were in bad shape and should be replaced. Chamba District : Shri Hans Raj MLA Churah said that vacant posts of Teachers, Doctors and Paramedical staff should be filled and water problem in Civil Hospital Tissa be resolved. He urged to shift ITI situated at Koti to Bhanjradu where Government building was available for the purpose. He also urged to increase the honorarium of Special Police Officers (SPOs) deployed in Chamba district.

Shri B.K. Chauhan, MLA Chamba said that comprehensive list of consultants who can prepare Detail Project Reports should be maintained so that delay in preparing DPRs could be avoided. He requested to connect every village of constituency with roads. He urged to start work of bus stand, Taxi stand and Subzi Mandi in Chamba town. He said that Green Tribunal has declared Khajiar Lake as wetland and has restricted commercial activity within radius of half kms from it. Shri Vijay Agnihotri MLA Nadaun requested that work on Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project should be started at the earliest and channelization work of Man and Kunah Khuds should be speeded up. 318 villages of Chamba district taken out from wildlife sanctuaries

Forest Minister Shri Thakur Singh Bharmouri today said that five wildlife sanctuary areas of Chamba district have been taken out of sanctuary area enabling the residents of these areas to avail benefit of their traditional rights. These include 52.98 sq. kilometre area of five villages of Sechu-Tuan sanctuary, 15.60 sq. kilometre area of 32 villages of Gamgul Siyabahi sanctuary, 8.81 sq. kilometre area of two villages of Kugti sanctuary, 19 sq. kilometre area of 18 villages of Tundah sanctuary and 51.83 sq. kilometre area of Kala Top Khajiyar sanctuary. 

Principal Chief Conservator (Wildlife) Shri A.K. Gulati today submitted the rationalization report of these sanctuary areas to the Forest Minister. 

Forest Minister said that the residents of these notified wildlife sanctuary areas were not able to avail all traditional benefits of forests like others. Keeping this in view, a proposal was prepared to keep populated areas out of wildlife sanctuaries and National Parks which was sent to Hon’ble Supreme Court of India after approval of State Wildlife Board and National Wildlife Board. The Forest Bench of Supreme Court on 1st February, 2013 ordered to take out the proposed areas out of the ambit of wildlife area. 

Shri Bharmouri said that in all 318 villages have been taken out of sanctuary area and the residents of these villages would now be able to avail all traditional benefits. 

He said that after the rationalization process, there were 26 wildlife sanctuaries, five national parks and three conservation reserves in the State and more than one lakh population would be benefited of protected and other nearby areas. He said that the total protected area of the State had increased from 12.86 percent to 15.01 percent of the total geographical area.

Preparations are underway to implement Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for LPG subsidy in 7 more districts of Himachal Pradesh. Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu, Lahaul Spiti are the seven districts of Himachal Pradesh where the scheme would be extended.

Before this, LPG subsidy through DBT scheme which began from 1st June includes Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur districts of Himachal Pradesh. The scheme began in the fourth district (Mandi) of Himachal Pradesh from August 1. Government has started Cash Transfer Compliance Customer (CTC) system for more than 70% LPG consumers in the said districts.

For CTC consumers have been given a time frame till 30th September to provide their bank account linked Aadhaar number to their gas agencies. Those consumers would be denied of LPG subsidy from October 1 who will fail to submit their bank account linked Aadhaar number to their gas distributors until the set deadline. Consumer will have to buy LPG cylinder at market price from October 1 while the subsidy amount of 9 LPG cylinders per year would be credited into their Aadhaar linked bank account.

New ISBT to be constructed at Chamba

Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh said that new Inter-State Bus Stand (ISBT) would be constructed at Chamba and directed the administration to provide adequate land for the purpose to fulfil the long pending demand of people of the district. Chief Minister was speaking during the prize distribution function of Minjar Fair at Chowgan in Chamba district. Chief Minister said that by constructing new ISBT better facilities would be made available to local people besides the people visiting from other parts of the State. He said that continuous bus service would also be made available in new ISBT adding that a taxi stand would also be constructed near to new ISBT to provide parking facilities for private vehicles. He directed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure the construction of government degree college building in time bound manner and to provide additional land for extension of college campus.

The vanishing gods of Himachal

The deities are no more gracing the "land of the gods", as Himachal Pradesh is known. They have been silently whisked away by antique smugglers.

The theft earlier this week of six ancient idols and antiques worth over Rs.1.50 crore from a three-century old Bondra 'devta' temple at Bachunch village near Rohru town, some 120 km from Shimla, has once again put the spotlight on the treasures lying vulnerable in hundreds of temples and monasteries.

Police say it's one of the biggest heists in a religious place in the recent past. In the past 15 years, at least 100 thefts from temples have been reported, over 20 of them notable ones. The police suspect the involvement of Nepali migrants in connivance with foreign antique smugglers.

"It's a serious issue. We will certainly soon implement some foolproof security arrangement in all the prominent temples and monasteries," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order)Sanjay Kumar told IANS. He said directions would be issued to the temple and monastery committees to put up iron grills where the idols and ornaments are kept. "We will even convince them to install CCTV cameras and burglar alarms in the temple premises," he added. Despite a large number of thefts, the state has no policy on preserving antiques, an official said. "No proper stocktaking or verification of antiques lying in various religious places has taken place for quite some time. No one knows as to what all is there in our inventory," said an official of the state's language, art and culture department, which looks after important temples of the state.

Antique idols and valuables worth Rs.33.83 lakh were stolen from temples between 2008 and 2011, of which stolen property worth Rs.5.49 lakh were recovered, then chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal informed the assembly in a written reply April 5, 2011. He admitted in the assembly that the government had not framed any separate policy to prevent thefts from temples. Police officers say with the linking of roads in the interiors and opening of new areas for tourists, temples located there have become more vulnerable to theft.

"The gangs of smugglers recce the monasteries and temples located in the interiors in the guise of tourists in summer. In winter, they try to get away with the antiques when the temples are closed," a senior police officer, who didn't wish to be identified, told IANS. Earlier instances of theft in temples include the stealing in September 2009 of seven antique idols, most of them made of silver, from the Keem temple near Rampur town in Shimla district, about 120 km from Shimla.

Less than a week before this, five 17th century bronze idols were stolen from a temple in Nahan town. In 2008, two ancient idols were stolen from the Shoolini temple in Solan town. In another incident the same year, ancient coins and silver artefacts went missing from the Suryavanshi temple in Kullu town. In the majority of thefts, the police have failed to trace the stolen property. But there are some fortunate 'gods' who have returned to their temples.

Take the case of two antique idols of the goddess Kunzum that were stolen in 2006 from the prominent temple in Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti district. The mastermind was arrested in Delhi in March 2008 and the stolen idols were seized. Likewise, a rare five-foot bronze statue of Lord Vishnu, dating back to the eighth century, was stolen from the Hari Rai Temple in Chamba town May 6, 1971. It was recovered from a godown in Mumbai two months later and reinstalled in the temple July 7.

The hill state has over 2,000 temples and monasteries that are centuries old. Of these, 60 are under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) while 31 are under the state language, art and culture department.

दुष्कर्मी को सात साल की कैद, 55 हजार जुर्माना

वरिष्ठ संवाददाता, चंबा : अतिरिक्त सत्र न्यायाधीश मुकेश बंसल ने दुष्कर्म के दोषी रविंद्र सिंह उर्फ राजू पुत्र अमर सिंह निवासी बड़ी धार साहला भटियात को दोषी करार देते हुए उसे सात साल की कैद व 50 हजार रुपये जुर्माने की सजा सुनाई है। जुर्माना अदा न करने की सूरत में अभियुक्त को एक साल की अतिरिक्त कैद झेलनी होगी। जबकि जान से मारने की धमकी देने के आरोप में तीन साल की कैद व पांच हजार रुपये जुर्माने की सजा सुनाई गई है। जुर्माने की कुल जमा 55 हजार की राशि में से 40 हजार रुपये पीड़ित युवती को दिए जाएंगे।
