Governor Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated Red Cross fair at Sundernagar here today. He called for making the campaign against drugs more effective to save youth.
He said Red Cross Society was providing medical care to poor people for free and financial assistance of more than Rs17 lakh had been provided for the treatment during a period from April 2018 to November 2019.
He said the society had set up three digital X-ray plants, by spending Rs1 crore, for the convenience of general public in the premises of Regional Hospital, Mandi, Civil Hospital, Sundarnagar, and Civil Hospital, Karsog. The facility was available 24 hours in the Regional Hospital, Mandi.
The Governor emphasised women empowerment and their participation in development.
"There is also a need to work on various issues such as cleanliness, drug-free Himachal, Fit India and social concerns so that a healthy and better society can be established," he said.
He also inaugurated an exhibition, where various government departments and NGOs had put up stalls.
Later, the Governor visited Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, at Kamand, and held discussions with director of the institute Timothy A Gonsalves.
Gonslaves welcomed the Governor and apprised him about the academic and other activities of the institute. The Governor appealed the students to not depend on government jobs but start their own industries so that they could provide jobs to others as well. — TNS
