Landslip-hit families to be shifted to safer areas

Local MLA Rakesh Pathania has stated that the remaining 10 landslide-affected families of Niazpur locality of Nurpur town would be shifted at safer places by tomorrow evening. He said vacant government quarters in Silk Mills, PWD and police colonies had been identified and the administration had been directed to shift affected families there.

He said slide-affected families had already been shifted to vacant government quarters whereas the remaining families of the landslip-affected residential area, whose houses were under the threat of landslides, would be shifted tomorrow.

The MLA said all affected families were also being allocated four marlas (each) in the urban area by the government. The land had been identified and allotment process was under way.

He also said that a contour construction plan with an estimated cost of Rs 1.50 crore had been prepared by the state disaster management body and submitted to the Government of India for approval through DC Kangra recently.

He asserted that this plan was mooted to save the whole locality prone to landslip and if sliding area was not protected by raising contour the landslide would continue and damage more houses in the region.

Pathania claimed that landslides had started triggering in the locality four years back but the then local MLA Ajay Mahajan and previous Congress government had failed to take any protective steps to avert the displacement of the hapless families.

"Had the then MLA taken any initiative collapsing of houses of the affected families could have been averted", he alleged.
