ldquo;The end of the war resulted in unconditional surrender by the Pakistan army and subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh. On this day, chief of Pakistani forces, General AAK Niazi, along with 93,000 troops, surrendered to the allied forces consisted of the Indian Army and Mukti Vahni led by General Jagjit Singh Aurora,rdquo; he added.

Recalling the ceasefire on December 16, 1971, Capt Jagdish Verma (retd), who was deployed in the Barmer sector of Rajasthan during the war, said, ldquo;Our troops fought valiantly and captured Pakistanrsquo;s huge area and forced their troops to surrender.rdquo;

However, Capt Verma regretted that their troops and land were returned under the Simla Agreement without any condition and an opportunity was lost by the political bosses that time. He remembered bravehearts, who lost their lives and sustained injuries in this war.
