Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd (HPSEBL) employeesrsquo; union has taken a strong exception to the delayed and erratic distribution of electricity bills to consumers in the state.

The HPSEBL has launched distribution of bills through spot billing machines but itrsquo;s not working properly. In some areas, these machines are lying defunct.
Kuldeep Kharwara, President, HPSEBL employeesrsquo; union

Kuldeep Kharwara, state president of the union, today said the Board management had failed to streamline the billsrsquo; distribution and recover revenue from its consumers. He said the consumers, especially in upper areas of the state in Rohru and Rampur, were getting inflated electricity bills for eight to 10 months together as there was acute staff shortage in these areas. ldquo; The HPSEBL has launched distribution of electricity bills through spot billing machines but this system is not working properly in most parts of the state. In some areas, these machines are defective and lying defunct, rdquo; he said, adding that the spot billing machines had poor battery backup and could not release more than 30 to 35 bills at a time.
Kharwara urged the HPSEBL management to fill vacant posts to ensure timely distribution of bimonthly electricity bills to the consumers and recover revenue so that financial health of the HPSEBL did not deteriorate. mdash; OC
