As many as 170 students who were stranded amid heavy snowfall near Kufri in Shimla last evening were rescued early today, police said.
Ninety students from Maharashtra and 80 from Rajasthan were on a trip to the state when they got stuck in snowfall in separate incidents near Kufri, said SP Omapati Jamwal.
A bus carrying students from Maharashtra skidded at Fagu around 8 pm while on way to Manali, leaving them stranded, the SP said. Dhalli SHO Rajkumar and his team rescued them to a nearby resort where they were staying for now, he added.
A team while returning towards Hassan Valley after clearing the Chharabra-Kufri section of the road found around 80 vehicles, including two tourist buses, stuck in snow, Jamwal said. The tourist buses were carrying students from Rajasthan, including 35 girls, he added.
The administration brought in a bulldozer to clear the snow, following which the 80 students were escorted out in four vehicles, the SP said. mdash; PTI
