HRTC buses to display food rates

Transport Minister GS Bali have asked the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to display names of dhabas with rates of food articles inside buses so that passengers are not overcharged.
Addressing a meeting with the union of drivers and conductors here today, Bali said a task force would be constituted for random checking of rates and quality of foods served at dhabas on the HRTC premises. “We will explore the possibilities of opening food outlets at major bus stands,” he said.
He said the HRTC was also mulling outsourcing the work of washing of buses to private players. To provide an insurance cover to drivers and conductors, the matter had been taken up with insurance companies, he added.
He said drivers and conductors would be imparted training in operating the computers and electronic bus ticketing machines in a phased manner.
He said more than 1,000 buses had been added to the HRTC while 200 new buses would be bought this year.
HRTC Union president Devraj Thakur and general secretary Sukh Ram raised various demands, including filling vacant posts of driver and conductor.
