Rohru - Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh while addressing a huge gathering on the occasion of religious ceremony of ‘MahaYajna’ (Shant)’ held after 28 years in the premises of ‘Khantu Devta’ at Devidhar in Chhohara Block of Rohru Subdivision today stressed the need for preservation of traditions and cultural heritage of this hilly state.
The Chief Minister said that State Government was committed for preservation of the ‘Dev Sanskriti’ and rich culture of the State and exhorted the people to come forward for conserving them. He said that Himachal Pradesh was known for its rich cultural legacy since times immemorial.
Acceding to the demands of the area, the Chief Minister directed to maintain Devidhar-Lalpani road and to construct road up till Jhalwari. He urged the people of the area to donate their land voluntarily for witnessing ray of development. He said that additional building of the Rohru hospital was under construction and would provide another 50 bed facility to the existing capacity of 150 beds in the hospital and it would be provided with latest equipments. He also announced a bridge to be constructed on priority at Tagnu and a police post for Jangla.
The Chief Minister said that the government would bear the expenses for construction of a stadium at Devidhar. The ayurvedic dispensary building would also be constructed after transferring the existing structure in the name of Ayurveda department. He also assured for taking up the matter for opening of extension counter of bank at Devidhar and added that a residential would be soon opened for school girls at Chirgaon.
He said that 717 schools were either upgraded or opened in the State besides 14 degree colleges and many other institutions of repute during last two years. The government was opening three new medical colleges at Chamba, Hamirpur and Sirmaur for which a provision of Rs 190 crore each had been made.
He said that development had no bounds and the congress always believed in overall and equal development of all areas of the State. He exhorted the people to shift focus on cultivating red rice as the area was famous for rice cultivation besides apples.
The Chief Minister paid his obeisance before the devtas and congratulated the people of the area for organizing the ceremony. As many as 14 devtas from Chhohara Block and from Rampur area assembled in the premises of the main deity ‘Khantu Devta’ to participate in the Maha Yajna. The ‘Shand’ ceremony which started on Thursday this week will conclude on Saturday evening. The people in their traditional attires thronged the venue in thousands to witness the ritual which was considered as the most religious and historic one.
Earlier, the Chief Minister performed foundation stone laying ceremony of the academic and administrative block of Seema College, Rohru to be constructed at a cost of rupees seven crore.
President, Devidhar Gram Panchayat Smt. Vidya Negi and the Chief Priest (kardar) of the temple, Shri Mehar Singh Thakur welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister and other distinguished guests present on the occasion and thanked him for gracing the occasion.
Smt Vidya Negi thanked the Chief Minister for participating in the Yajna and also listed demands of the area, the main being construction of the Building of existing Ayurvedic Dispensary at Devidhar and bus service for Bhamwari and Kolcha. She also demanded bus able road to Banoti- lalpani and Mathla.
MLA Shri Mohan Lal Brakta also welcomed the Chief Minister to his home segment and listed the development activities in the area and demanded Bank extension counter for the area.
President, Block Congress Committee Shri Ishwar Dass Chhoharu also spoke on the occasion and demanded girls senior secondary at Chirgaon.
Chairman, Zila Parishad, Shri Chandreshwar Prasad, Member, BoD Forest Corporation, Shri Surinder Retka, Pradhan GP Samoli, Shri Prakash Rekta, Deputy Commissioner, Shri Dinesh Malhotra, Superintendent of Police Shri D.W. Negi were also present on the occasion amongst others.
