Workshop on solar energy ends

Researchers from Solan-based Shoolini University and the United Kingdom (UK) shall collaborate on research and knowledge-related activities for green synthesis of nano particles. This was one of the major outcomes of the two-day international workshop on ldquo;Advanced Materials for Engineering and Solar Energy Applicationsrdquo;, which concluded at Shoolini University. The event was held in association with Cranfield University, Bedfordshire (UK), and it was also resolved that dual degree programmes with both universities would be worked out. Funds from The Royal Society, London, and The British Council along with Indian funding agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Biotechnology would be sought for pursuing research. Delegates from 15 educational Institutions and industries participated in the event. VC Prof PK Khosla said such collaborative projects allowed researchers to propagate the research activities. Its convener Dr Rajesh Sharma said it aimed to expand the use of traditional composite materials for multi-functional applications and to encourage Indian students

for registration in MSc by research.

Annual function at Kandaghat college

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said Himachal had the best schools, colleges and institutes, preferred by students from all over the country. At the annual function of Kandaghat Government Degree College, the minister said the literacy rate in the state was the second highest after Kerala. He said the government was laying special emphasis on imparting education to girls. This was the first annual function of the college. The minister urged the students to go in for vocational courses.

Protest by SFI activists

The SFI on Thursday held a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in HP University. Activists burnt the effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and raised slogans against the BJP government. The students said the CAA was an attack on the unity, diversity and secular character of Constitution. It was an attempt to divide the nation and its people. Campus president of the SFI Ravinder Chandel and secretary Gaurav Nathan said the manner in which the students were being dealt with by an iron hand only reflected the dictatorial side of the Modi regime. They said people from all walks of life had come out on roads against this Act.

DAV wrestlers win bronze medals

The wrestling team of DAV Public School, Hamirpur, won two bronze medals during the DAV national sports meet. Rajat Thakur, Hrishikesh Gautam, Akshit Thakur, Anmol Thakur, Abhay Thakur and Shubham Pathania participated in the competition held in Hyderabad. Shubham Pathania won a bronze medal in the 61-kg category and Hrishikesh Gautam in the 92-kg category. Principal Vishwas Sharma said the future of DAV wrestling players was bright.The principal congratulated the winning players.
