Nurpur, December 15
To enforce one-way traffic system in the town, the local administration with the assistance of the Municipal Council had installed two automatic barricades on the exit points in May 2015 during the previous Congress regime. It had also set up police huts to control the one-way traffic rule, but now neither automatic barricades are functioning, nor any police personnel are deployed. The barricades and police huts have become show pieces.
The barricades had been installed at Niazpur and near the government combined office building on Court Road here. The one-way traffic system has flopped ever since the barricades had stopped working and the police huts are lying idle. The traffic rule now is being violated by habitual offenders.
STEPS TAKEN
- The barricades had been installed at Niazpur and near the government combined office building on Court Road here in May 2015 to regulate traffic.
- Police huts had been set up to control the one-way traffic rule
The police have failed to check the violation of the one-way traffic rule in the town. Frequent traffic jams in the congested markets have become a bane of the residents and traffic chaos has become a daily feature in the town. The administration has become a silent spectator to the booming public nuisance.
As per one-way traffic system notified by the district administration on February 1, 2015, no four-wheeler is allowed to enter the town from Niazpur and Court Road. These can only be entered from the Chogan side and exit to Niazpur and Court Road.
Chogan and Niazpur are the connecting points to Pathankot-Mandi National Higway-154. The plan was enforced from 8 am to 8 pm whereas heavy goods vehicles had been restricted from 8 am to 7 pm. But now heavy vehicles and tractor-trolleys can be seen moving during the restricted hours, causing traffic chaos in the town.
Sahil Arora, DSP, said due to shortage of manpower and deployment of Home Guard jawans and police force in the Assembly session, no man could be deployed. Shortly, they would be deployed to regulate the traffic system.
