Nurpur school ‘Fit India School’

Noorpur Public School (NPS), Nurpur, has been recognised as the ldquo;Fit India Schoolrdquo; by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India. The school celebrated fitness week. Various activities like yoga, sports quiz, traditional and modern games were held. Manager Arvind Dogra said: ldquo;We always encourage students to be active.rdquo;

UK research lecturer meets Nauni VC

Dr Sameer Rahatekar, research lecturer in manufacturing at the Enhanced Composites and Structures Centre of Cranfield University, United Kingdom, held a meeting with Dr Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, to explore collaboration options. Discussions on the possibility of developing facilities like solar-operated essential oil machine were held. The machine can be installed at the farm itself and reduce the transportation cost of the raw material along with ensuring the quality of the finished product. Dr Rahatekar also showed interest in developing reinforced fibre sheets by utilising pine needles and waste from the paper industry. He said the two universities could work on any other area, where solar power could be used to reduce dependence on conventional sources of energy. Dr Kaushal said the university had expertise in horticulture and forestry and the exchange of faculty for joint projects and the possibility of a joint programme at the PG level could also be explored.

DAV-Parwanoo students bag medals

Students of DAV-Parwanoo have brought laurels to the school. Parvinder Singh of Class IX bagged a silver medal in wrestling (weight category 47 kg) at the DAV national sports-2019 in Hyderabad. He has also been selected for the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). Ayushi Singh of Class X added another feather to her cap by winning a silver medal in taekwando (weight category under 63 kg) in the DAV national sports competition held in Panipat recently. She has also been selected for the SGFI. Principal Dr Harneet Singh lauded the achievements of the students and encouraged them to do better in the future.

Students enjoy rafting

Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nadaun, did rafting in the Beas near Nadaun on Friday. The trip was organised by the school authorities, in collaboration with Ultimate Survival Camping Site. Major RC Sharma (retd), owner of the camping site, said: ldquo;Such events boost studentsrsquo; confidence.rdquo;
