A 33-year-old man was killed by an accidental gunshot at Amnallah Chapla village last night and his father has been booked for negligence and under the Arms Act.

Dehra Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Randhir Singh today said the victim had been identified as Anshul, son of Dilbagh Singh.

"Both Dilbagh and his son were on way to their agricultural fields near Chapla village last night to protect these from wild animals. Dilbagh said he had handed over his loaded gun to Anshul and in the process the gun slipped and its trigger was pushed.

As a result, a gunshot was fired accidentally, hitting Anshul's neck," Singh said.

He said the body had been sent for post-mortem to Dehra Civil Hospital from where it had been referred to Tanda Medical College for specialised autopsy. Singh said the body was handed over to Anshul's parents today after the postmortem.

He said a case against Dilbagh had been registered under the Arms Act and for the negligence of handing over a loaded gun to his son.

The SDPO Randhir Singhsaid the police were investigating the case from all angles.
