THE historical lsquo;Chaurasi Porianrsquo;, the gateway to the old city of Una, built around 300 years ago is in a neglected state with torn plaster and loose stones. Foul smell emanating from the weed overgrowth on the stairs and the side drains make the surroundings even worse. There is an urgent need to repair and preserve the historical structure. The recent snowfall has exposed the lack of preparedness to tackle the situation. Even though the snowfall was not very heavy, the administration failed to clear even the Cart Road, leaving commuters in the lurch. Buses did not ply from Old Bus Stand to Sanjauli as the stretch near Hotel Holiday Home could not be cleared. However, snow clearance robot machines were pressed into service to clear roads in VIP areas. As always, the common man was left to fend for himself. Lokender Awashty, Sanjauli
