Anand Sharma elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal

Congress leader Anand Sharma on Monday was elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh. This will be his fourth term in the Rajya Sabha.

He had earlier resigned from the membership of the upper house to pave the way for his return as a lawmaker from his home state. Sharma had earlier represented the state twice before his current status as lawmaker from Rajasthan.

The Congress has 36 members in the 68-member Himachal state assembly house where the BJP has 27. Four are independent members supporting the Congress and one of them belongs to Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP).

Rajya Sabha is the council of states and its members are elected by legislators in the state assembly.
