The Jat reservation stir took a toll on the traffic flow on the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway (NH-21), as lesser rush of commuters was recorded a day after protest with many people avoiding the highway amid apprehension of further protests on Monday. The highway, which connects Chandigarh to Himachal Pradesh, remained blocked for five hours from 11am to 4pm on Sunday after over 400 protestors from the Jat community had laid siege to the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway and sat on protest at Old Panchkula Traffic Light point. According to NHAI officials at Chandimandir Toll Plaza, the vehicular traffic was reduced by half on Sunday and further by 20 per cent on Monday, as compared to commuter rush on the same day last week.
