While addressing a mammoth public meeting at Dadasiba in Jaswan Pragpur Constituency, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that the decline in female sex ratio was an issue of grave concern especially in areas adjoining to Punjab. This indicates that there is an increase in sex selective abortions and misuse of pre-natal diagnostic techniques in these areas.
Chief Minister said that the Government would stop grant to such Panchayats where the ratio of the girls were found to decline in near future, and would not be given any financial aid in the name of development, whereas those Panchayats would be rewarded which have better male-female sex ratio. “Action would be taken against those who were found to be indulged in such illegal practice of aborting the girl child,” he said, adding that it was wrong to differentiate between boys and girls in the present era where women were excelling in every field and were held in highest esteem.
Virbhadra Singh said that we should spread the message of protecting the girl child for ensuring a balanced society. “I am keenly watching the trend of the declining female sex ratio” he said adding that he was well aware that some people were going to nearby clinics outside the State to abort the girl child, which was inexcusable.
Speaking about the setting up the Central University Campus in Kangra, he said that it was the BJP which was creating hurdles and spreading rumours about its establishment. “No doubt the Central University will have its main Campus at Dharamsala but surely the people of Dehra won’t be bereft of its benefits or advantages. He said that the Central University would be established at Dharamsala and its affiliated full fledge colleges would be opened at Dehra.
Since its formation Himachal Pradesh has developed leaps and bounds. The State has excelled in field of education and was one of the leading states having literacy percentage as high as Kerela. He said that many schools were opened in the State and now the need was to open Primary schools and that too in those areas where the topography demands so or where there was a necessity and not otherwise. It is not necessary that every plus two or high schools be upgraded as being demanded. The schools would be upgraded accordingly as per the need or in the areas where there was a necessity.
The Chief Minister announced Police Post for Dadasiba and announced to start three more trades in ITI from next academic session. He announced opening of Government College at Dadasiba, besides Sub-Tehsil status at Dadasiba. He also announced up gradation of high schools Bharoli-Jadid and Bari to Senior Secondary Schools and Government Middle School Upper Bhalwal, Punni and Goraldhar to High Schools.
He also announced sciences classes in Government Senior Secondary Schools Saleti and additional accommodation of 6 rooms for Government Senior School, Seul. He also announced to open Government Ayurvedic dispensary at Lag Baliana.
Earlier, the Chief Minister performed foundation stone laying ceremony of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer’s Residence cum Office at Dehra to cost Rs. 86 lakh and also laid the foundation stone of Community Health Centre at Dadasiba to cost Rs 1.5 crore.
He also inaugurated building of Government Senior Secondary School at Dhaliara completed at a cost of Rs. 82 lakh, inaugurated Rs. 1.64 crore newly constructed bridge over Beehan rivulet, Rs 1.54 crore Badhal Khud Bridge near Dhaliara, inaugurated bridge over Chanour rivulet, connecting Dehra and Jaswan assembly segments completed at a cost of Rs 1.81 crore and Industrial Training Institute building at Dadasiba, completed with a cost of Rs 3.7 crore.
MLA Sanjay Rattan while welcoming the Chief Minister urged the people to be with those who work for the welfare of the people and to recognize the difference between right and wrong and be aware of those forces that were determined upon in dividing people and creating difference between them. He also appealed to the people to not get swayed by the propaganda of the opposition.
Chairman, HP State Employees Welfare Board Surinder Mankotia, welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister on the occasion and credited the development of Jaswan area to the successive Congress regimes and said that all the three bridges connecting Dehra and Jaswan which were dedicated to the people today were sanctioned by the Congress governments.
Block Congress Committee President, Pradeep Kumar also welcomed the Chief Minister and thanked him for dedicating ITI and other projects in the area.
Vice-Chairman Freedom Fighter Welfare Board, Sushil Rattan, former MLA Jog Raj, Brigadier Rajinder Rana, Chairman APMC, Hamirpur, Prem Kaushal, and representatives of various Panchayats were also present on the occasion amongst others.
