A mass awareness campaign for disaster risk reduction would be organized from 8th October to 13th October, 2013 throughout the State with main focus on including the needs of persons living with disabilities in the processes of disaster risk reduction. The objective of this awareness campaign is to promote a culture of disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness and to encourage citizen and Government to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations.
Special Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management Cell, Dr. Amandeep Garg, while presiding over the meeting to chalk out the strategy for week long celebrations of Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives ‘Samarth-2013’ here today, said that under the banner of ‘Samarth-2013’ various events and activities would be organized at the State and District level. He said these celebrations were being organized to make people involvement in a big way to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction on 13th October.
He said that workshop on roles and responsibilities of the media, emergency mock drill, orientation of community volunteers on hazard hunts, film show, emergency preparedness workshop for disabled people, solidarity march, demonstration of disaster and safety preparedness, exhibition on the Ridge and hazard hunt walk by volunteers in various urban wards of Shimla would be prominent activities and events organized during the week long celebrations.
Divisional Commissioner Kangra, Shri J.S. Rana, Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Shri Dinesh Malhotra, Superintendent of Police Shimla Shri Abhishek Dullar and other members of the HPSDMA were also present in the meeting.
