Kullu, January 4
Forest, Transport and Sports Minister Govind Singh Thakur laid the foundation stone for two parking lots, to be built at a cost of about Rs 4 crore, at Akhara Bazaar here today.
Addressing a public meeting at Sanatan Dharam Sabha Bhawan, Akhara Bazaar, the minister said the parking lots were being constructed under the AMRUT Yojana.
"The Central Government has extended the duration of the scheme till 2022. This will help Kullu and many modern facilities will be provided here," he added.
Govind Singh said the parking lots would facilitate local businessmen as well as people coming for daily purchases. "The old bus stand of Akhara Bazaar may also be developed," the minister said, announcing Rs 1 lakh for the repair of the Sanatan Dharam Sabha Bhawan.
A dialogue would be held between officials of the Kullu Municipal Council and locals to prepare a blueprint for the development of the town.
The Forest Minister said besides Dhalpur Maidan, the emphasis would be laid on the conservation and beautification of vacant places in other wards of the town.
Under a pilot project, efforts would be made to bring uniformity in the construction of buildings in Kullu and parts of Manali. These buildings would be given a traditional wooden look. The possibility of starting it from the Mall road in Manali and lower Dhalpur in Kullu would be explored, he added.
Earlier, former MP Maheshwar Singh, Kullu MC vice-president Gopal Krishan Mahant and local councillor Rajender Sood welcomed the Forest Minister. District BJP president Bhimsen Sharma, Planning Board member Yuvraj Bodh, HRTC Board member Akhilesh Kapoor, councillors and other BJP members were also present.
