Nurpur, December 30
Dhani Ram (72) of Khatiyar village here was allegedly hit and ran over by a vehicle in which five persons from Hajipur in Mukerian, Punjab, were travelling last night.
As per police information, the deceased was running a fish vend at Khatiyar village. The vehicle riders, who had consumed liquor, came from Mukerian to his vend to eat fish but a quarrel erupted when he demanded money. The accused started the vehicle to flee but Dhani Ram tried to stop them. They allegedly ran over the vendor, who died on the spot.
The police said the vehicle had been impounded and all efforts were being made to nab the culprits. A case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC was registered against the five unidentified culprits at the Fatehpur police station. The police handed over the body to the family after conducting a postmortem at the Nurpur Civil Hospital mortuary. — OC
