Only 58 of 92 pilots cleared paragliding test conducted by the Tourism Department at Dobhi in Kullu yesterday.
Kullu Tourism Development Officer Bhag Chand Negi, Col Neeraj Rana, Director of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering Institute and Allied Sports, Manali, and other members of the committee framed to regulate adventure sports activities in the district were present during the test.
Negi said periodic inspection of the pilots and equipment was done to ensure the safety of revellers indulging in adventure sports in the district. He said paragliding test was held to provide licences to pilots for conducting tandem flying. He said flying equipment and paragliders were also examined.
Col Rana said according to the new rules, the paraglider pilots would have to keep an electronic logbook device to keep details of flying hours of a pilot. ldquo;After this, the history of flying hours of a pilot will be considered before providing him the licence for tandem flying,rdquo; he said.
Due to many fatal accidents in the past in various adventure sports in the district, a committee had been constituted to regulate adventure activities for tourists. To ensure safety of the revellers, the committee conducts frequent checks and provides licence to operators to carry out the adventure activities.
