Governor inaugurates Shimla Classical Musical Festival

Governor Acharya Devvrat inaugurated the five-day long Shimla Classical Music Festival jointly organised by Art Language and Culture Department and Indian Music Society, Delhi at Gaiety Theatre, here today.

Internationally acclaimed and well known flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia mesmerised the audience with his performance on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion the Governor said that Indian Classical Music was widely known for its richness and had its tradition from ancient times and even in Vedas. He said that there was a need to preserve the rich traditions of our fine arts and young generation should be aware of them.

Acharya Devvrat said that Himachal Pradesh had been blessed with immense natural beauty and had great potential for tourism which needed to be tapped more by developing new tourist spots and preserving precious environment. He said that awareness should be generated in the society for the same in order to protect the beauty of hills.

Famous Indian classical vocalists Pandit Jasraj and Pandit Ullas Kashalkar, noted Santoor player Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Sitar maestro Nishat Khan would also perform during the festival.

Speaker, HP Vidhan Sabha BBL Butail, Vice Chairperson, Panjabi Academy, Delhi government and Director Indian Music Society Anita Singh, Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar, Director, Language, Art and Culture Arun Sharma, prominent person of the town and music lovers in large number were present on the occasion.
