Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh while presiding over the ‘Get-together’ function ‘Prayas’ of Sirmaur Students Welfare Association here today said that students should accept RUSA for better academic atmosphere in the State and urged the those few students organizations who were playing in the hands of few political outfits to refrain from making hue and cry against the system.
While lauding the efforts of the Association for making this event an annual affair, Chief Minister said that such get together celebrations plays an important role in preserving our rich cultural and traditions. He said that such functions also contribute a lot in strengthening the bond between the communities and provides an opportunity to get together and make merry by sparing time from their busy schedule.
Shri Virbhadra Singh exhorted the students for conserving their customs and culture and not to get swayed away by western culture and its civilization, though each civilization, customs, language and culture have their own significance. He said that people of Himachal Pradesh were recognized because of their age old traditions and customs and it becomes imperative for us to preserve them at all cost.
Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh was known as ‘Dev Bhoomi’ and the life of people revolves around their Gods and Goddess. He said that we need to spread the message to our coming generations to carry on with the faith and belief in our deities.
Shri Virbhadra Singh said that today our State was well placed because of sound foundation laid by first Chief Minister of our state Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar. He said that we cannot forget the contributions of Dr. Parmar in securing Statehood to the State. He said that it was efforts of Dr. Parmar and benevolence of former Prime Ministers Pt. Jawarharlal Nehru and Smt. Indira Gandhi that our State got separate identity and status. He said that since then Himachal has not looked back and had emerged as model of hill development in the country.
Chief Minister said that today State is well placed in the field of education and was ensuring quality education to the students at their door steps. He said that the Congress has opened six colleges in Sirmaur district out of total seven and a World Bank aided Rs. 150 crore Kumarhatti-Nahan road was constructed during the Congress regime. He said that it was the UPA Government which had given IIM to the State and Government had decided to set up this institute in Dhaulakuana in Sirmaur district, as it was well connected from all sides. He said that a medical college would also be opened in Sirmaur district for which provision of Rs. 190 crore had been made.
Chief Minister also distributed prizes to the students who participated in the event.
Chief Minister announced Rs. 35,000 for the Association from his discretionary fund.
Shri Harshwardhan Chauhan, Chairman, Employment Generation and Resources Mobilization Committee while speaking on the occasion said that Chief Minister had a special love for the people of Sirmaur district and they were indebted to the Chief Minister for being with them on the occasion for ensuring development of Sirmaur district. He said that it has been seen that district Sirmaur was given special attention during the Chief Minister ship of Shri Virbhadra Singh. He listed various achievements during the Congress tenure in Sirmaur district. He also urged the Chief Minister for constructing ‘Sirmaur Bhawan’ at Shimla.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
Earlier, the President of Association Shri Manoj Sharma and General Secretary Shri Ram Chandra and Chairman Shri Mohan Pundir welcomed the Chief Minister on the occasion.
Shri Prithvi Vikram Sen, President, H.P. Football Association also welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister.
Shri Jagat Ram Sharma, General Secretary, Shilai Congress, Shri Dalip Chauhan, Member Zila Parishad, Sirmaur, Shri Yashwardhan Chauhan, President, H.P. High Court Bar Association were also present on the occasion among others.
