Scattered rain has provided relief to people from the fury of monsoon even as reports of damage to property continued to pour in from interior parts today.
Landslides triggered by rain damaged three houses at Krishna Nagar in Shimla while several link roads in the interiors of Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur and Mandi districts were blocked.
Irrigation and Public Health Minister Vidya Stokes directed the Shimla administration and the PWD, Irrigation and Public Health and electricity board to restore the damaged roads and projects on a war footing and ensure that no inconvenience was caused to the people. She said as the apple marketing season had started, directions had been given to the PWD to maintainall major and link roads in Shimla district.
The administration had also been asked to be prepared to meet any eventuality in the wake of heavy rain.
Bilaspur received 39 mm of rain followed by Kasauli 21 mm, Mehre and Hamirpur 12 mm each, Naina Devi and Nurpur 10 mm each, Manali, Una and Jubbal 8 mm each, Bijahi 7 mm, Jhandutta 6 mm each, Chelsea 5 mm, Shimla and Solan 3 mm each, Chail and Kasol 2mm each.
There was no appreciable change in the minimum and maximum temperatures and Kalpa and Keylong were the coldest at night with 13.4 degrees. The Met Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in low and mid hills and predicted rain and thundershowers in low, mid and high hills till July 24.
