World Red Cross Day was observed at Raj Bhawan today. Members and office bearers of State Red Cross Society and H.P. Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section and students of local schools pinned up Red Cross flags to Mr Sanjay Gupta, Principal Secretary to Governor who is also General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, H.P. Branch to mark the occasion.
Mr Gupta also gave donation to Red Cross society and distributed sweets to the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Lalpani, Shimla and Government Senior Secondary School, Sanjauli, Shimla who also took out a rally on the occasion to create awareness about Red Cross among the masses.
World Red Cross Day was observed on 8th May every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Henry Dunant, who founded the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in 1863 to protect human lives and mitigate human sufferings.
Smt. Poonam Chauhan, Honorary Secretary, Hospital Welfare Section, Mr P.S. Rana, Secretary, H.P. Red Cross Society, Executive Members of Hospital Welfare Section, officers of Raj Bhawan and Red Cross Society were also present on the occasion among others.
On the occasion of the World Red Cross day, members and office bearers of State Red Cross Society pinned up Red Cross flags to Chief Minister Mr Virbhadra Singh here today.
The theme of this year is ‘Power of Humanity: The Fundamental Principle in Action”.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister appealed to the people of the State to liberally donate towards State Red Cross society and serve the suffering humanity. He also made a contribution towards the Fund on the occasion. He said that the Red Cross was playing a pivotal role in promoting humanitarian principles and values besides helping the poor and the needy. The Chief Minister said that and all its branches over the State were committed to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity.
“ I hope that the Red Cross Society would continue in its endeavours in future as well and be always committed for the welfare and health needs of the people of the State”, said the Chief Minister.
Chairperson, Hospital Welfare Section and Vice-Chairperson of the State Red Cross Society, Smt. Pratibha Singh was also present on the occasion amongst other members of State Red Cross Society on the occasion amongst children.
