HC hands over probe to CBI - Shimla Now

The HP High Court has handed over the investigation of a death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Two state police officials are allegedly involved in the case.

The order was passed by a division bench, comprising Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Sureshwar Thakur, on a petition filed by the parents of the deceased. They have alleged that the state police had not investigated the matter in a proper manner.

On January 9, 2013, deceased Uday Vir Singh, along with his friends, was returning from Shoghi (Shimla) when they decided to check a car belonging to one of his friends, Harsh Sharma, which was impounded by the police and was lying in the junk yard at Tutu-Taradevi bye-pass road. The junk yard is guarded by police personnel round the clock.

When the deceased and his friends reached the junk yard, the guards got alerted and questioned them. One of the policemen fired from his pistol at the deceased from a close range, resulting in his death.

Thereafter, an FIR was registered at Police Station, West Shimla, against the two police officials. The investigation was initially conducted by the Police Station. The investigation was transferred to CIA Branch and further to the CID Branch.
