Chief Minister Mr Virbhadra Singh while addressing the public meeting after laying foundation stone of Marketing Yard to cost Rs. 8.5 crore at Bhattakufar in Shimla, said that construction of vegetable and fruit markets were necessary to facilitate and farmers and horticulturists of the State to sell their produce on marginal profit.
He said that there was need to construct more marketing yards in the State as they were necessary for social economic development of farming community, besides preventing the exploitation of the farmers and horticulturists and to regulate the sale, purchase, storage and processing of agriculture produce. He said that apart from this the Government was endeavoured to provide basic facilities for the people working in such markets. He said that the Government would take up the matter with the Labour Department for construction of Labour Hostels at various locations where such marketing yards were functioning. He said that there was a need for labour hostel at Bhattakufar marketing yard and asked the APMC to either construct themselves or take up the matter with the labour department.
Chief Minister said that Government has given priority for strengthening of existing marketing yards and creation of new market yards. He said that State Government has made a budget provision of Rs.10 Crore to the Marketing Board to supplement its resources for development of Marketing Yards.
He lauded the efforts of APMC in marketing surplus fruits and vegetables in the State.
The Chief Minister also inspected the site of IGMC phase-II and construction work of Government School Bhattakufar.
Earlier, Mr Subhash Manglet, Chairman APMC and Mr Mahinder Satan Chairman APMC Shimla & Kinnaur welcomed the Chief Minister and honoured him. They also detailed about the activities of the Marketing Board and future strategies.
Mr Nahar Singh Chaudhary, President Traders Association Dhalli also honoured the Chief Minister.
MLA Mr Anirudh Singh, Mr Devinder Shyam Advisor Marketing Board, Mayor MC Mrmla Mr Sanjay Chauhan, President DCC (Rural) Mr Kehar Singh Khachi, Vice-Chairman HPTDC Mr Harish Janartha, Chairman APMC Solan Mr Ramesh Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Mr Dinesh Malhotra, Managing Director APMC Mr H.S. Baweja were also present on the occasion.
