Cancer hospital at IGMC gets radiation safety certificate

The cancer hospital at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) has got a safety certification for regularisation of radiation therapy technology (RTT) from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai.
Inaugurating the RTT certification at the cancer hospital here yesterday, Dr Jaishree Sharma, Director, Medical Education, said the certification would make BSc nursing students eligible for jobs in the various cancer hospitals of the country.
The BSc medical technology radiology and radiotherapy was started here in 2003, but AERB, the regulatory body in the country, had not accorded an RTT certification to the hospital, he said.
Health officials said the trained nurses and paramedics at the cancer hospital could treat patients, which in turn would improve the health situation in the state. The nursing students could get the certified degree and use all advanced equipment and therapies meant for cancer patients, they added.
