Travellers on the Delhi-Chandigarh-Shimla route will get packaged food in Volvo buses operated by Himachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). With private operators from other states operating their super luxury buses to tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh, especially to Dharamshala and Manali, HRTC has been facing huge losses over the years, which is why it has decided to provide packaged food to lure passengers.

State transport minister G S Bali said: "Airconditioned deluxe buses are being run on several new routes while old deluxe buses, especially those operating between Shimla, Dharamshala and Manali, have been withdrawn." He said that the financial condition of HRTC is bad as during the previous BJP regime, it suffered cash losses of Rs 380 crore. Bali said that soon, fresh transport policy would be framed and radio cabs would be introduced in the certain towns. Bali said that two mini buses having the capacity of 20 to 25 passengers would be introduced in Shimla.

Ahead of the scheduled strike of private operators across Himachal Pradesh on August 26, transport minister G S Bali has requested private operators to call off their strike assuring them to consider their genuine demands.
