Himachal Pradesh's higher reaches, including Rohtang and Baralacha passes, on Monday received the season's first snowfall.
The region continued to receive moderate snowfall when reports last came in forcing authorities to deploy Border Roads Organization (BRO) jawans to ensure the Manali-Leh highway remains operational.
A BRO official said their jawans and machinery will be working on the road to keep it open till November 15. "Depending upon the circumstances, we generally keep the highway open till November 15 but efforts are made to try and keep the highway snow-free as long as possible," he said.
Similarly, state-run buses will be running on the road till November 15 or until snow blocks the road permanently.
