Himachal Pradesh chief secretary Sudripta Roy suffered brain hemorrhage in Shimla on Thursday, after which he was rushed to PGI Chandigarh in the evening. Initial efforts to airlift him to Chandigarh proved futile due to bad weather preventing the chopper from taking off. So, he was taken to Chandigarh by road in an ambulance. According to sources, Sudripta Roy attended the office on Thursday but later in the afternoon, he complained of restlessness and severe headache. Roy returned home but his condition worsened after which he was rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) around 4pm.

IGMC sources said that initially, Roy was kept under surveillance at ICU for around 75 minutes and later when CT scan was conducted, clotting on the right side of brain was detected. According to doctors, massive internal bleeding had occurred and blood had even entered ventricles. Roy fell unconscious at IGMCH, sources said.

IGMCH principal professor S S Kaushal said that the chief secretary was suffering from high blood pressure and the CT scan confirmed massive brain hemorrhage. A 1978 batch IAS officer, Roy had assumed office of the chief secretary in May 2012.
