With the manifestos and agendas laid out by the three student outfits, namely Student Federation of India (SFI), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Student Union of India (NSUI), nearly two lakh student voters are ready to choose the next Student Central Association (SCA) of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and college student central associations (CSCA) in the university's regional centre at Dharamshala and 108 government and private degree colleges across the state on Saturday.
In the varsity campus, 3,158 voters will decide the fate of 12 candidates in fray for the central panel posts of president, vice-president, and general secretary and also different department representatives. According to the varsity authorities, voting will be carried out from 9.30 am to 2 pm and counting of votes will be carried after 2 pm and the results will also be declared on Saturday itself.
HPU dean of student welfare (DSW) S S Chauhan said, "All preparations are in line for the polls. 25 polling booths have been set up in HPU campus and everything is being carried on as per recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee. Security has been beefed up across all colleges as more than 150 security personnel have been deployed in HPU campus alone to check for any untoward incidence." Student outfits made last attempts to woo student voters via aggressive rallies, door-to-door visits and through social media sites on Friday.
