Shimla, January 9
As many as 25,000 pre-primary students, enrolled in 3,740 government schools, should be provided with mid-day meal from state resources, said Chief Secretary Anil Kumar Khachi at the 19th state-level steering-cum-monitoring committee meeting of the Mid-day Meal Scheme here today,
At present, 4,97,774 students enrolled in 15,516 primary and upper primary schools from classes I to VIII in the state are getting mid-day meal.
The government and the state provide funds under the Mid-day Meal Scheme on a 90:10 basis. The Centre has approved Rs 8586.33 lakh and the state Rs 862.30 lakh for current fiscal.
The Chief Secretary also directed the Education Department to ensure that good quality meal was provided to the students.
The Centre had advised the state to use double fortified salt (iron and iodine) and fortified edible oil (vitamins A and D). — TNS
