Governor Acharya Devvrat said that the Red Cross was undertaking a pious movement in service of the suffering humanity and all sections of the society should come forward to contribute towards this noble cause.
The Governor was speaking during the inaugural function of State level Red Cross Fair organized at historic Ridge here today.
He said that a universal sense of solidarity towards all those in need of help and assistance was important. He appealed to associate more people with Red Cross activities to make it a mass movement. He urged the people to donate liberally towards the State Red Cross so that humanitarian activities could be undertaken to provide succour to the underprivileged. He added that efforts should be made to mobilize resources for gearing up welfare activities and the responsible citizens should associate themselves with the activities of the Red Cross. He also stressed to start a membership drive for increasing the number of volunteers.
The Governor urged the members of Red Cross and others to also associate themselves with other social activities as well. He added that mass awareness for plantation activities for environmental protection, disaster management, health camps, and cleanliness campaigns were the main activities, which should be undertaken by all.
He also visited the stalls put up on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the organizers.
The Governor honoured various schools, associations who have collected funds for the Red Cross on the occasion.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by students of Portmore and Government school Rajhana.
Honorary Secretary, Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch Smt. Poonam Chauhan welcomed the Governor and briefed about the activities of Red Cross society.
Dr. Sadhna Thakur, Chairperson, State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section (HWS), Kusum Sadret Mayor Municipal Corporation Shimla, Rakesh Sharma, Deputy Mayor, Vimla Kashyap former MP Rajya Sabha, Phiroza Vijay Singh, Vice Chairperson HWS and Kavita Mardi Vice President, Advisor to Governor Dr Shashikant Sharma, Amit Kashyap Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Asif Jalal, Inspector General of Police, Secretary Red Cross P.S. Rana, Officers of District Administration, Members and Volunteers of District Red Cross and People of the town were present on the occasion.
