While presiding over the concluding ceremony of three day Wrestling Championship at Kotkhai in district Shimla, organized by Kotkhai Environment Sports and Cultural Club said that the State Government was endeavoured to promote the rural games and create better sports infrastructure in rural and far flung areas of the State so that the budding players could get an opportunity to perform better at State, National and International Sports events.
Chief Minister said that wrestling was one of the oldest game of the Country and was also popular in Himachal. He said that since Volleyball requires less paraphernalia and small grounds, every Panchayat of the State would be provided play grounds for promoting volleyball.
Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the players from Himachal Pradesh were performing well at National and International level. Recently, the Shooters of the State and the Kabaddi players had brought laurels for the State by winning medals in the Asian Games and yesterday three players from Himachal Pradesh, Shri Jeewan Kumar from Jogindernagar in Mandi district won Gold Medal in Powerlifting Championship in Las Vegas in America while Shri Ajit Singh from Rait and Shri Dhruv Singh from Bhawarna in district Kangra had won Silver medals in the same event. He congratulated the players for achieving the feat at International level.
Taking a jibe, he said that wrestling and Politics seems to be similar where the opponents always find an opportunity to throw others on their back. But one should always think of betterment of others, he said adding that the Government never discriminates between the regions and was ensuring equal developments of all regions irrespective of political affiliation.
He said that the work on the School building of Government Girls Senior Secondary school, which he ordered last time to be completed on priority was still awaited, adding that the officers should complete development works in time bound manner and expressed his displeasure over the delay the work of the School building and of improving the Stadium. He said that the government was committed for development of the Kotkhai region and the officers concerned should abide by the instructions, once given, keeping in view the welfare of the people. He directed the works to be completed within a stipulated time period.

He said that the work on the Theog Hatkoti road had been sanctioned to Chadha and Chadha Company by the World Bank and directed the company to complete the work within time otherwise, their tenders would be cancelled. He also directed the PWD authorities to take up metalling work of road from Ghasi Gaon to Ghasi Gaon Kainchi linking Kiari road.
Chief Minister said that the mainstay of economy of the people here was apple produce and advised the people to adopt cultivation of off-season vegetables for increasing their income. He said that the education had been priority of the State Government and the government was more concerned to open schools in the rural areas. Stress was to provide better education at the door-step to the girl child as by opening many high schools and colleges in far-flung areas.
The Chief Minister also gave a cheque of Rs. 15000 each, to the President of the Navyuvak Club Pandli, Yuvak Mandal Mandla, Mahila Mandal, Koti, Mahila Mandal Roni and Jai Mata Bhuri Mahila Mandal Kothi for promoting the cultural activities.
Earlier, Shri Mahendar Stan, Chairman, Marketing Committee, Shimla & Kinnaur welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister on the occasion. He thanked the Chief Minister for honouring the occasion.
Many reputed wrestlers from Himachal and neighbouring States of Punjab and Haryana participated in the championship. Shri Jagrup from Punjab won the final match defeating Abdul Gani of Chamba district.
Shri Raj Kumar Gautam, Ex-Pradhan, Shingla Panchayat in Rampur donated Rs. one lakh for the first prize in wrestling championship.
Shri Rajesh Sood and Shri Arjun Brakta donated rupees twenty five thousand each for second prize of the event.
Similarly many other individuals, Unions and societies also donated funds for the making the event a success.
Shri Kehar Singh Khachi, President, District Congress Committee, Shimla Rural, Shri Yashwant Chhajta, Chairman, HP Housing Board and Shri Pratap Chauhan, Ex-Chairman, HIMFED were also present on the occasion amongst others.
